Substation and Apparatus Supervisor

Background: Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) seeks a highly-motivated, skilled, and experienced individual for its Substation and Apparatus Supervisor position in Pahrump, Nevada.
VEA is a member-owned cooperative that serves electricity to its consumers in six counties across portions of Southern Nevada and California. Located approximately 50 miles from Las Vegas, Pahrump is situated in the beautiful Mohave Desert and is only a few miles from Death Valley National Park. VEA is home to 80 employees and operates in a unique and challenging environment, full of interesting and exceptional opportunities. Responsibilities of the newly opened position include the supervision and planning for the operations of the substations technicians’ activities, including the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of electrical substation facilities and oversight of VEA’s SCADA and AMR/AMI programs and related equipment. The Cooperative serves more than 22,000 meters and 16,500 members over a service area greater than 6800 square miles, extending for a length of about 250 miles. VEA purchases all of its power requirements and owns and operates approximately 350 miles of transmission line, 1,493 miles of overhead distribution line, and 597 miles of underground distribution line. VEA is presently moving-forward with the installation of approximately 60 miles of 500kV transmission lines, and the development of a natural gas pipeline to connect to potential solar generation in the service area.

General Qualifications: Applicants should possess extensive experience in cooperative utility substations, including systems and programs that operate utility substations, SCADA programs, AMR/AMI operations and related equipment and programs operating the same. Additionally, WECC compliance experience in these areas is a plus. Applicants must have at least 8 years experience in substation and metering equipment and related utility experience, including maintenance of electrical systems and related equipment ranging in voltages from 25kV to 230kV, and an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical, Mechanical Technology or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Compensation: Salary range is between $64,162 - $95,228, depending on experience and qualifications. VEA offers an excellent NRECA benefits package.
