Telecommunications Tech I

Date: January 24, 2012

Background: Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) seeks a highly-motivated, skilled, and experienced individual for its Telecommunications Technician I position in Pahrump, Nevada.

VEA is a member-owned cooperative that serves electricity to its consumers in six counties across portions of Southern Nevada and California. Located approximately 50 miles from Las Vegas, Pahrump is situated in the beautiful Mohave Desert and is only a few miles from Death Valley National Park. With warm, mild winters, and sunny summers, Pahrump and the surrounding community provide countless opportunities and recreational amenities. Whether you are looking to go hiking at nearby Red Rock Canyon or intend to skiing on Mount Charleston, Pahrump offers an experience that is second to none. By taking just a short drive to Las Vegas, all bets are off as award winning golf courses, world-class restaurants, and Broadway shows await. Southern Nevada has it all. Pahrump is also home to a great regional medical facility, a winery, and unique natural surroundings. The famed “Area 51” is even located just outside VEA’s service territory. Access in and out of Pahrump is painless due to a sophisticated highway system and a busy international airport located less than an hour from VEA’s headquarters.

VEA is home to 80 employees and operates in a unique and challenging environment, full of interesting and exceptional opportunities, including oversight of a large and diverse personnel pool, developing comprehensive training programs and HR plans, benefits administration and oversight, regulatory compliance, and other similar professional challenges found at a cooperative utility of VEA’s size. The Cooperative serves more than 22,000 meters and 16,500 members over a service area greater than 6800 square miles, extending for a length of about 250 miles. VEA purchases all of its power requirements and owns and operates approximately 350 miles of transmission line, 1,493 miles of overhead distribution line, and 597 miles of underground distribution line. VEA is presently moving-forward with the installation of approximately 60 miles of 500kV transmission lines, and the development of a natural gas pipeline to connect to potential solar generation in the service area.
