Annual Meeting

Valley Electric Association (VEA) held the Annual Meeting for 2008 at the Beatty Community Center in Beatty, Nevada on Saturday, April 19 th. Some members traveled by bus from Pahrump and Amargosa Valley and we had a record turnout with nearly 1,700 members participating by either mail, proxy or in person. In addition, the members overwhelmingly approved a bylaw amendment that will now allow the association to move immediately forward with the establishment and special election of two (2) new directors.

The two new districts are:

  • District #5 – Sandy Valley, Mountain Springs and Trout Canyon or all VEA services residing in Clark County.
  • District 6 – North Pahrump Valley or all services North of Highway 372.

A letter will be forthcoming to all members in the two new districts soliciting interest for the new board of directors position. Also, the board of directors will be appointing a nominating committee who will be charged with selecting at least two and no more than three candidates for the final ballot.

The activities included a great lunch prepared by the Beatty High School Band. We are grateful to them for not only a wonderful meal, but also the set up of the room beforehand and clean up after the event.

In addition to lunch we also had safety demonstrations put on by our line crew and a clown was very entertaining for the children during the business meeting.

The “Our Energy, Our Future” Campaign was explained to the members to reinforce the need for citizens to contact legislators with the need to investigate reliable power at a reasonable cost. A reminder that the websites: www.ourenergy.coop and www.vea.coop have links to communicate our concerns and ask questions about future plans.

Many thanks are due to the VEA Ambassador group who did a wonderful job of networking with the members, handing our energy efficient information and recruiting more ambassadors.

Our scholarship winners were announced and introduced to the membership. Each gave a thank you speech. The board of directors greatly expanded the 2008 Scholarship Program from previous years and it proved very successful

Overall, it was very successful and we look forward to next year. Valley Electric Association continues to create the power of community!!!
