VEA is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations.

VETA is a wholly-owned transmission cooperative association providing service to VEA and other entities. VETA currently has 324 miles of 230/138 kV transmission facilities. Current construction includes the transmission facilities and extending service to additional large scale customers.

VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO). This is a unique and exciting opportunity within the cooperative's history.

Line Crew Superintendent

Immediate opening for a Line Crew Superintendent to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities:  The primary responsibility of the Line Crew Superintendent will be to supervise the activities of line crews and make decisions on the methods, procedures, and plans necessary to achieve objectives.  Additional responsibilities will include long-range planning and coordination of construction, maintenance, and operations of the cooperative; ensure compliance with VEA and / or RUS construction specifications and the National Electric Safety Code; and to assist the Engineering Department as needed.  This position performs diversified operational and administrative duties that require technical knowledge of electrical, civil, and mechanical applications. 

Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge: High school diploma. Qualified as a journeyman lineman by successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program including a written exam.  Extensive experience in distribution and/or transmission operations, preferably with an electric utility (ten years total, with five years in a supervisory role preferred).  Experience with maintenance and construction work, laws and regulations is necessary.  Highly motivated with demonstrated positive management and supervisory skills, along with a strong commitment to cooperative principles and to providing excellent customer service.  Must have a working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, accident prevention, code requirements, personnel procedures, budgeting, and general cooperative policies and procedures.  Must have the ability to deal with co-workers, members and the general public in a professional and courteous manner.

Power System Controller

Immediate opening for a Power System Controller to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: The Power System Controller position is responsible  for operating the Valley Electric Association, Inc (VEA) distribution system and the Valley Electric Transmission Association, LLC (VETA) transmission systems as a NERC-certified system operator to provide optimal reliability for our members and customers.  

Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Must be NERC certified as a Transmission Operator (TO, BT or RC certification) and remain current on all continuing education requirements.  Five years of experience at a utility with emphasis on operation of power systems, including; transmission, distribution, power marketing/scheduling, or balance and interchange, or any equivalent or related combination of education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for requirements listed above.

Contracted Power System Controller

Immediate opening for an Independent Contractor to work for a period of 6 to 12 months as a Power System Controller in our Pahrump, NV dispatch center. 

Key Responsibilities: The Contracted Power System Controller will be responsible  for operating the Valley Electric Association, Inc (VEA) distribution system and the Valley Electric Transmission Association, LLC (VETA) transmission systems as a NERC-certified system operator to provide optimal reliability for our members and customers.

Manager of Lands & Surveying

Immediate opening for a Manager of Lands & Surveying to join our team at our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: The Manager of Lands and Surveying is responsible for the overall stewardship of the Cooperative’s right-of-ways, easements, fee title lands and water rights and acquisition thereof, including, but not limited to: supporting the design of transmission line and substations; supervising the support services for construction of transmission line and substations; directing the acquisition of right-of-ways, easements, fee title lands and water rights; preparing and directing the preparation of legal descriptions, maps and supporting documents for said rights; providing and directing staking for construction of transmission lines, distribution lines and ancillary facilities; providing and directing the organization of records for all of right-of-ways, easements, fee title lands and water rights and maintaining such in manner consistent with policies and procedures of the Cooperative.

Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge: College degree in land surveying or related field or a combination of education and experience that would qualify for this position.  Successful candidate must be professionally licensed in the State of Nevada or be able to obtain such registration within twelve months of hire date.  A minimum of ten years related industry land surveying and/or right-of-way management experience.  Knowledge of land surveying, easement law and right-of-way corridors; skill in the use of related computer software applications; ability to deal with co-workers, customers and the general public in a professional and courteous manner.  Alternative equivalencies to this experience may be considered appropriate and acceptable at the discretion of the Cooperative.
