VEA is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations.

VETA is a wholly-owned transmission cooperative association providing service to VEA and other entities. VETA currently has 324 miles of 230/138 kV transmission facilities. Current construction includes the transmission facilities and extending service to additional large scale customers.

VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO). This is a unique and exciting opportunity within the cooperative's history.

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE

Immediate opening for an Executive Vice President of Administration and Finance to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: The Primary responsibilities include managing and directing the daily finance and administrative duties of the Cooperative, by:

Advancing the financial position of the Cooperative in a manner that promotes the strategic decisions of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO).  This includes direct participation in; accounting, investing, financing, and the purchasing and selling of power.  

Overseeing responsibilities in payroll, credit and sales, purchasing and payment, and the administrative departments to provide optimum service and maximum productivity through effective and efficient processes, policies and procedures.

Overseeing all phases of the cooperative’s computer and telecommunications systems to ensure reliable and state-of-the-art communications and technological systems. Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge: Four year degree from an accredited university or college with a major in finance, accounting, or business administration.  MBA highly preferred.  Must have 15 years of experience in supervision and accounting system design in addition to understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.  Must also have experience with financial statement preparation and reporting to management.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.  Must be comfortable with a large variety of computer programs.  A working knowledge of Excel, Word and Internet navigation software are required.  Must be able to develop Excel templates for variety of reporting and special project uses.  Experience with general ledger software is also required.

LEAD POWER SYSTEM CONTROLLER

Immediate opening for a Lead Power System Controller to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: The Lead Power System Controller is responsible for the over performance and oversight of the Power System Controllers and dispatch center. This is a management position where decisions involve revision of methods and procedures necessary to achieve objectives. The Lead position must be able to perform the duties of a Power System Controller and carry out management tasks as well.

Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Must be NERC certified as a Transmission Operator (TO, BT or RC certification) and remain current on all continuing education requirements. Fifteen years of experience at a utility with emphasis on operation of power systems, including; transmission, distribution, power marketing/scheduling, or balance and interchange, or any equivalent or related combination of education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for requirements listed above. Excellent knowledge of switching procedures, lockout / tagout procedures, clearance procedures, and OSHA regulations regarding these procedures. Develop thorough knowledge of VEA’s electric transmission and distribution system.  Familiar with the National Electric Safety Code. Knowledge and competency in applicable NERC/WECC Reliability Standards for system operation.  Knowledge and competency in all VEA operating procedures under normal and emergency conditions.  High computer literacy, with a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).  Thorough knowledge of various software programs used to communicate with and program various electronic relays and controls. Basic understanding of thermal generators.

JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN

Immediate opening for a Journeyman Lineman to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: This position provides specialized technical skills and knowledge for construction, conversion, relocation and maintenance of the electrical transmission and distribution lines throughout the area served by the cooperative.  Employee will effectively provide service to customers, creating goodwill between the Cooperative and its membership.

Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge: High School Diploma or equivalent and certified as a Journeyman Lineman.  A minimum of 6 years in appropriate field.  Must have a thorough knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, and services used by electric utilities.  Must have knowledge of State and Federal laws related to construction.  Must have thorough knowledge of the Description of Units, specifications and drawings for line construction of transmission and distribution voltages; and a thorough knowledge of operating and construction procedures and practices of electric transmission and distribution organizations. Must be proficient in and possess a Medic First Aid Card (CPR inclusive).  Must obtain and maintain a current commercial driver’s license (CDL) per Nevada State Department of Transportation Regulations.  Must have the ability to deal with co-workers and customers in a courteous and professional manner.
