ABOUT THE COMPANY
 

Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA), is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations.  VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).

VEA is the parent company to a host of wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Valley Electric Transmission Association (VETA), Valley Communication Association (VCA), Valley Electric Utility Services (VEUS), and Valley Electric Energy Services (VEES).

VETA (Valley Electric Transmission Association), is a wholly-owned transmission cooperative association based in Pahrump, NV, providing service to VEA and other entities. VETA currently has 324 miles of 230/138 kV transmission facilities. Current construction includes the transmission facilities and extending service to additional large scale customers.

VCA (Valley Communications Association), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and will offer commercial and residential optical fiber broadband service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit, to VEA members throughout Nevada.

VEUS (Valley Electric Utility Service), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump NV, and was established in 2013 to provide electric utility services outside of VEA’s electric utility service area. 

VEES (Valley Electric Energy Service), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and was established in 2013 to provide distributed and renewable energy resources within and outside of VEA’s electric utility service area.

ELECTRIC UTILITY JOB OPENINGS

 

Community Relations Supervisor

Immediate opening for a Community Relations Supervisor to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:  This position is responsible for developing relationships that position the Cooperative as a valued neighbor in the communities it serves. This position assists the Chief Evangelist in establishing VEA and its subsidiaries as standards in the industries they serve. This position will also be responsible for assisting the Chief Evangelist in sharing our authentic and inspiring story and by creating relationships based on transparency and open communication that ultimately fosters trust and loyalty among its stakeholders, who in turn become evangelists themselves. This position is responsible for community relations, which includes involvement in various community events, acting as a liaison between Ambassadors and VEA, educating members about the cooperative business model, and participating in economic and community development activities as necessary. In addition, this position will support various levels of management and team members as needed and requires close coordination and communication with the marketing and communications team.  

Education: 4-year college degree, with three years of related experience, or a combination of directly related experience and education that would qualify for this position.

Experience: Must possess or develop a basic understanding of the industry and its concepts, practices and procedures. Member and Communications Services experience in the electric utility business preferred. Public relations, economic development, advertising and writing skills necessary.

Knowledge: Must have a basic knowledge of public relations, economic development, marketing and working with a wide variety of people.  Must be familiar with and have the ability to use social media, community networks, etc. Basic knowledge of computer systems, writing, research skills, editing and html/website knowledge.

Manager of Engineering

Immediate opening for a Manager of Engineering to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities: The Manager of Engineering is responsible for the overall planning and design, performance, and functions of engineering for the Cooperative. Performs diversified engineering, lands and administrative duties that require technical knowledge of electrical, civil, and mechanical applications.

Education: Candidate is required to have a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree. Professional certification or the ability to obtain such registration highly preferred.

Experience: A minimum of ten years related cooperative industry engineering management experience required for this position. Experience with electric utilities, information technology systems and telecommunications systems. Alternative equivalencies to this experience may be considered appropriate and acceptable at the discretion of executive management.

Knowledge: This position requires the application of engineering theory and practice in carrying out its responsibilities. An understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code and other related regulations is required.

Power System Controller

Immediate opening for a Power System Controller to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities: The Power System Controller is responsible for operating the Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) distribution system and the Valley Electric Transmission Association, LLC (VETA) transmission systems as a NERC-certified system operator to provide optimal reliability for our members and customers.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be NERC certified as a Transmission Operator (TO, BT or RC certification) and remain current on all continuing education requirements.

Experience: Five years of experience as a NERC certified dispatcher at a utility with emphasis on operation of power systems, including; transmission, distribution, power marketing/scheduling, or balance and interchange, or any equivalent or related combination of education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for requirements listed above.

Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of switching procedures, lockout / tagout procedures, clearance procedures, and OSHA regulations regarding these procedures. Develop thorough knowledge of VEA’s electric transmission and distribution system. Familiar with the National Electric Safety Code. Knowledge and competency in applicable NERC/WECC Reliability Standards for system operation. Knowledge and competency in all VEA operating procedures under normal and emergency conditions. Knowledge and competency in all VEA reliability-related tasks under normal and emergency conditions. High computer literacy, with a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.). Thorough knowledge of various software programs used to communicate with and program various electronic relays and controls. Basic understanding of thermal generators.

Area Foreman - Fish Lake Valley

Immediate opening for an Area Foreman - Fish Lake Valley to work in our Fish Lake Valley location in Dyer, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:  The Area Foreman works in his/her regular capacity of a Journeyman Lineman, with additional duties, which includes; scheduling and supervising the construction, conversion, relocation and maintenance of the electrical transmission and distribution lines throughout the area served by the cooperative.

Education: High school diploma, and qualified by successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and by written exam as a journey lineman required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Journeyman Lineman.

Knowledge: Must have a thorough knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, and services used by   electric utilities.  Must have knowledge of State and Federal laws related to construction. Must have thorough knowledge of the Description of Units, specifications and drawings for line construction of transmission and distribution voltages; and a thorough knowledge of operating and construction procedures and practices of electric transmission and distribution organizations.  Ability to deal with co-workers and customers in a courteous and professional manner. 

Other Skills and Abilities: Must have the ability to possess a Medic First Aid Card (CPR inclusive).  Must obtain and maintain a current commercial driver’s license (CDL) per Nevada State Department of Transportation Regulations. Must have Certification for Fork Lift Operator. Must obtain and maintain an OSHA 30 Construction certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain federal security that satisfies the access requirements of VEA’s federally contracted installations.

Key Responsibilities: The Journeyman Lineman position completes the construction, conversion, relocation and maintenance of the electrical lines throughout the area served by the cooperative.
