VEA Sets Dates for Annual Meeting
By Vern Hee
PAHRUMP, NEV. – Valley Electric Association has announced dates for its 2018 annual district meetings and its Annual Membership Meeting.
District meetings will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 6-22. The Annual Meeting will be Saturday, April 28 at Pahrump Valley High School. At the March district meetings, CEO Thomas H. Husted will review the Cooperative’s finances, highlights from 2017 and discuss expectations for 2018 and beyond.
Elections for the Board of Directors of VEA are being conducted in Districts 1 and 3.
VEA members also will be asked to ratify several modifications to the Cooperative's bylaws. Members will have the option of voting on the bylaws changes before the Annual Meeting by mail or online, or they can vote at the Annual Meeting.
“As the needs of the membership change, so do strategies as VEA attempts to meet those needs,” says CEO Thomas H. Husted, speaking of the bylaws changes. Sometimes that requires a change in the bylaws, which have not been touched since 2011, he said.
2017 was an eventful year for VEA and its subsidiaries, including the successful sale of the Cooperative’s 230-kilovolt transmission lines to GridLiance Holdco. Because of the sale, members received rate stability and payments totaling approximately $18 million.
In 2017, Valley Communications Association extended high-speed broadband throughout Pahrump and into Beatty, Amargosa and Fish Lake Valley. The service is now being rolled out in Sandy Valley. Members also have a choice of options in TV and phone service.
