Back To Back Unrelated Outages Leave Some In The Dark

Pahrump, NV

Pahrump, NV - Two unrelated electrical outages on the evening of November 13th kept VEA line crews busy working into the night.

The first outage, which started at 7:30 PM, left 437 members out of power for approximately 45 minutes. A bird flew into some electrical equipment and caused the outage at Honeysuckle and Calvada. Crews were able to restore power to the residential and then commercial members and continued repairing any damage to the equipment.

The second outage occurred at Barney and Basin at 9:15 PM.  881 members were out of power for approximately 92 minutes. A mechanical failure on an overhead power line burned and fell to the ground.

"Our line crews did an amazing job restoring power as quickly and efficiently as possible," said Staci Behnke, Community and Governmental Relations Manager. "The crews always take precautions when entering an area with a downed power line or other unforeseen dangerous electrical hazards such as, a car hitting a power pole or a fire that is too close to one of our lines and always keeping safety at the forefront of their minds."

Two unrelated outages back to back are uncommon but when nature, weather and unforeseen circumstances are all involved, anything can happen and VEA crews are always ready to respond.
