Ambassador Program
What is the Ambassador Program?
Welcome to the Ambassador Program!! This is a grassroots
program designed to educate our members about Valley Electric
Association, the electric utility industry and enlist support
and involvement. This unique program will afford you the
opportunity to interact and work directly with the staff
and directors specifically on policies, procedures, and programs.
In addition, it is our goal to enlist member support in
shaping both the future direction of the cooperative and
public policy. Legislators want to hear directly from our
members – the voters. The more voters they hear from,
the more they will listen to what we have to say.
How does it work?
This program will allow you to give feedback and opinions
on specific power issues, policies, procedures, legislative
issues and learn how Valley Electric gets its power and what
each department does within the organization! You will learn
how the cooperative conducts business and see first hand
what some of the challenges are that the cooperative faces
on a day-to-day basis. You will have a voice in the co-op
allowing us to better serve our members.
Who can join?
Valley Electric needs members who care about their community and
take an interest in their electric cooperative.
Those who sign up must be a Valley Electric Association
member and live in our service territory.
When do we meet?
We will meet quarterly or as needed. Our meetings
will be in a roundtable discussion session where we will
address various items and discuss them in detail with you.
What are the Sub-Committees?
We have several committees for various VEA programs, which any Ambassador can join and become a part of the decision making process.
- Executive Committee - This committee is made up of 2 co-chairs and a secretary. They are elected by the full Ambassador group.
- Bylaw Committee - They meet at the beginning of each year to review the Association's bylaws and make recommendations to the VEA Board of Directors for items to be placed on the ballot for the membership to vote on.
- Scholarship Committee - They also meet at the beginning of each year to review the program and create criteria and essay questions for students who will receive scholarships.
- Legislative Committee - This group will work with our lobbyist and when there is a legislative call to action, they will lead the charge.
- Conservation Renewable Energy Committee (CREC) - This group reviews renewable energy opportunities, has created a conservation poster contest and was very instrumental in assisting with the business plan for the domestic solar water heating program. They continue to research new ideas and bring them to VEA staff.
- Finance Committee - Learns about the VEA financials and makes recommendations regarding specific programs, such as the solar water heating program.
