Frequently Asked Questions

Does it matter what time of day or day of the week I call?
No - the same rates apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
How do I sign up?
Contact the toll free number provided and it will only take minutes to have you on the plan.
Is there a charge to switch?
There are no fees to enroll in the plan; however, your local telephone company charges a service order fee to reroute your long distance service. This commonly ranges from $7 to $10 and is a one-time fee.
How am I billed?
You will receive a bill each month, separate from your Valley Electric bill for this program.
Is there a cost to have a toll free number?
There are no fees to have a toll-free number. You are billed only for the usage on the calls to that number.
Who is the carrier and are there any other partners for this program?
PowerNet Global, the company that administers this service, uses the nation's 4th largest long distance fiber optic cable network in the country. Their customers include Microsoft and the U.S. Treasury Department. National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) is also involved. They work with cooperatives across the country to provide quality services directed at rural areas.
Is this rate available when calling foreign countries?
At the present time, this rate only applies to calls made within the United States.
Do I need to be a member of the cooperative to acquire this service?
This service is available to any residence or business in the continental United States upon request.
Are there codes to dial?
No. The changes will be totally transparent; your local telephone company will merely redirect your long distance calls.
Why is VEA providing this service?
We are providing this service because we believe this is an opportunity to offer a long distance service that is affordable and benefits our members.
