In an effort to recognize hard-working students across its service area, Valley Electric Association, Inc. is pleased to offer 18 educational scholarships to assist members in pursuit of their higher education goals.
Valley is offering 7 scholarships available to current graduating high school students in the amount of $500 that will be awarded via a raffle drawing. There will be a guaranteed recipient from each District, if available for selection. These scholarships can be applied to academic, vocational, technical colleges, or trade schools. To be eligible for the raffle drawing, a graduating student must complete 1 of the 3 following options during the application process:
- Essay Response (Brief explanation of how your chosen career path ties to our cooperative values)
- Short Answer Response (Opinion question)
- Community Service (Minimum of 10 hours of Community Service)
Valley is offering 7 scholarships available to current graduating high school students with awards from $1,000-$2000. There will be a guaranteed recipient from each District, if available for selection. These scholarships can be applied to academic, vocational, technical colleges, or trade schools.
Valley is also offering 4 continuing education scholarships for those progressing on their education journey. Each award for the continuing education category is $1000.
To be eligible for the $1,000 or higher scholarships, an applicant must complete all (3) options: the essay, a short answer question, and community service. The essay is a brief explanation of how your chosen career path ties to our cooperative values, with minimal requirements allowing the essay to be as short or as long as the applicant would like. The short answer option is a quick response to an opinion question. For the community service option, the requirement is at least 10 hours of community service with supporting documents, such as a letter from an organization explaining the applicant’s service. Applications will be scored on a point system based on the quality of responses provided.
There are several documents that can be provided during the application process. Gathering these ahead of time can make for a more efficient application process.
These documents include:
- High School Transcripts (for graduating high school students) – Required
- Community Service Documentation –Required
Letter of Acceptance from intended post-secondary school – Required if scholarship awarded - Letters of Recommendation – Optional, included in the scoring
- Resume – Optional, included in the scoring
At any point in the application process, you can stop and save your progress in order to complete it at a later time.

Scholarship winners will be notified on or before the annual meeting on Friday, June 16, 2023.
